Pedestrian trails

In the area of the Park, there are two pedestrian learning trails that have been laid out.

•  »The Secrets of the Čigoć Triangle Trail« invites you to half an hour’s walk through Čigoć village, Lukmarčica Forest, and to the old Tišina meander. If you decide to take the trail, you will find that there are homes and foods for multitudes of plants and animals in the immediate vicinity of people. This kind of peaceful coexistence of man and nature is a rare bounty in the technological world of today.

•  »The Posavac Trail« offers you a pleasant walk lasting an hour and a half to two hours. As you go along, you can discover how people, while using the ploughland, the meadows and the pastureland, have left the door open to the wilderness. From November to May, the pasturelands might be flooded. Then you will not be able to stroll along them but instead can revel in the sight of this vast lake from the dyke.

We recommend that you start off on these to learning trails from the Info Centre at Čigoć 26, where you can get all the advice you need, as well as the free brochure called “Go for a Stroll along the Čigoć Trails”.
Please do dress properly for these trails – sports wear and comfortable shoes, and in rainy weather, boots are the best footwear. There is no drinking water along the trails, so take enough liquid with you.

The other trails that can be taken for walking but are not laid out or marked on the map are the dykes along the Sava River, and the defensive embankments along the Lonjsko Polje floodwater retention zone. If you choose one of the embankments for your walking trail, you must study the basic code of conduct in the Lonjsko Polje Nature Park.

Recreational bicycle trails

In Lonjsko Polje Nature Park there are no laid out sporting and recreational bicycle trails as yet. For this reason bicycle lovers are recommended to use the existing network of local roads. We can recommend a ride from Sisak downstream along the Sava River, through the villages of Lukavec – Gušće – Čigoć – Mužilovčica – Lonja – Puška – Krapje – Jasenovac. This section provides an atmosphere consisting of extremely attractive scenes of the natural and cultural heritage of the Posavina landscape, and since there are no ascents, it is not very demanding. The local hospitality facilities are there for refreshment and rest.

Map

Each year, as part of the European Stork Village celebrations in Čigoć (the last Saturday in June), Lonjsko Polje Nature Park organises a recreational bicycle rally from Sisak to Čigoć. The ride is 35 km long, and attracts a great number of participants, both local and from Zagreb, for whom the Čigoć Express train to Sisak is organised.
As part of the celebrations of European Heritage Days in Krapje (September) another bicycle rally is organised: Novska – Krapje and Lipovljani – Krapje. On this occasion those taking part in the bike-fest can revel in a rich cultural, educational and entertainment programme.

Ferry ride

In the area of the Lonjsko Polje Nature Park the Sava River can be crossed only by ferry. Today there are still two working traditional ferries, in the villages of Kratečko and Suvoj. They are powered by the current of the river itself, and during the crossing, in conjunction with the talk of the old ferryman, afford visitors a special atmosphere.

Fishing

There are many opportunities for recreational fishing in the area of Lonjsko Polje Nature Park. The area is rich in stretches of water where it is possible to fish (the rivers, streams, meanders and oxbows). For a fishing permit, ask the local fishing associations on the spot.
